Sermon NotesAPRIL 20
“Where Life Makes Sense" Luke 24:1-35 Easter Sunday – Born Again
"The darkness is broken! Today, every candle is lit again, proclaiming that death does not have the final word. Christ is risen, and in Him, we are made new. The journey of Lent has led us here—to resurrection, to hope, to life. May we live as people who have been born again into this glorious light!" APRIL 13
"Christ Collides with our Expectations" Luke 19:29-40 Lent 6 – Surrender
"As we near the cross, the final candle before Holy Week is extinguished. Today, we remember how easily our expectations of Jesus can cloud who He truly is. Christ enters Jerusalem not as a conqueror, but as a servant. As the light fades, may we surrender our own expectations and welcome Him as He is. As we extinguish this candle, we remember that without Christ, we walk in darkness. Though the world did not recognize the Light, the darkness will not overcome it." APRIL 6
"Christ Collides with our Blinders" Luke 18:31-19:10 Lent 5 – Wisdon
"The growing darkness of Lent reminds us of the things we fail to see. Sometimes, our own blinders keep us from recognizing God's presence and truth. As another candle is extinguished, may we ask for wisdom—eyes to see, ears to hear, and hearts that respond to Christ's call. As we extinguish this candle, we remember that without Christ, we walk in darkness. Though the world did not recognize the Light, the darkness will not overcome it. " MARCH 30
"Christ Collides with our Selfishness" Luke 16:19-33 Lent 4 – Generosity
"As we extinguish another candle, we acknowledge how easily selfishness takes hold in our hearts. Christ invites us to live differently—to embrace generosity, not just in what we give, but in how we love. May this dimming light remind us to open our hands and hearts to God and to one another. As we extinguish this candle, we remember that without Christ, we walk in darkness. Though the world did not recognize the Light, the darkness will not overcome it." MARCH 23
"Christ Collides with our Priorities" Luke 15:11-24 Lent 3 – Trust
"With each passing week, the light dims, reminding us of Christ's journey to the cross. Today, we name the struggle of misplaced priorities and learn to trust God with what truly matters. As another candle is extinguished, may we release our need for control and trust in the goodness of God. As we extinguish this candle, we remember that without Christ, we walk in darkness. Though the world did not recognize the Light, the darkness will not overcome it. MARCH 16
"Christ Collides with our Condemnation" Luke 13:1-9, 31-35 Lent 2 – Mercy
"Again, we extinguish a candle, stepping deeper into the shadows of Lent. But even as the darkness grows, we remember that Christ does not come to condemn, but to extend mercy. Today, we let go of judgment—our own and that of others—and receive the mercy that Christ so freely gives. As we extinguish this candle, we remember that without Christ, we walk in darkness. Though the world did not recognize the Light, the darkness will not overcome it." MARCH 9
"Humility" Philippians 2:5-11 Lent Week 1 – Humility
"Each week of Lent, we extinguish a candle, marking our journey toward the cross. As the light fades, we are reminded of the weight of sin and the depth of Christ’s love. Today, we reflect on humility—how Christ challenges our biases and calls us to see others through His eyes. As we watch the flame diminish, may we ask God to shape our hearts in humility. As we extinguish this candle, we remember that without Christ, we walk in darkness. Though the world did not recognize the Light, the darkness will not overcome it." MARCH 2
